Meet “Rose,” a working Olympia SF DeLuxe portable typewriter from 1965 with a gorgeous cursive typeface that was originally owned by a Detroit-area poet.

This ultra-portable typewriter is mid-century gorgeous in white and grey, with a somewhat rare cursive typeface/font called Script No. 69. Please see photos for a type sample. 

Made in Germany, this petite manual machine’s carriage glides and all of the keys strike and fall back smoothly. The little bell rings clearly to signal the end of each line. 

Olympias are known as precision-built machines meant to be workhorses for decades and this specific manual typewriter continues to offer a solid typing experience. As the DeLuxe version of the SF, “Rose” features touch control under the ribbon hood so that you can adjust the pressure needed to strike each key to your personal preference.

This Olympia arrives with a working black ribbon already installed so you’ll be ready to write your own adventures straight out of the box. The cursive typeface is 11 characters per inch. 

Cosmetically, this vintage typewriter is also in good overall condition, but please note some small blemishes in the paint on the bottom of the front of the body.  Somewhat uncommon for a cursive machine, this typewriter still allows for the use of a two-color ribbon. 

Please note that the lid sits normally on the machine but no longer snaps into place as the 60 year old rubber grommets no longer fasten it. This does not affect functionality or appearance. 

For shipment, we take great care in packing each typewriter well, with the carriage stabilized, the type basket packed so the letters don’t move, plenty of bubble wrap cocooning the machine, and a sturdy box that snugly fits all of the packing material cushioning the machine.
